An ultra rare well cut and matched round royal blue pair.
Single royal blue sapphire rounds are rare enough on their own, owing to the fact that sapphire rough isn’t usually suited to round shapes due to its elongated, tapered barrel-like crystal habit. Furthering its natural tendency to other cutting styles is the fact that most alluvial crystals get found in the form of small irregularly shaped pebbles, just fractions of the original crystal.
So with shapes all over the place, forcing a round onto them commonly results in a lower yield. For most people, “low yield” is the last thing they want to hear in the same sentence as “royal blue rough” because the rough itself gets very pricey for higher end colors even if you’re buying from a mine owner.
To find a pair that’s not only round and well matched in cut but also very well matched in color (keeping in mind it’s two royal blue sapphires after all) is a minor miracle of its own.
