A very fine purple sapphire.
The stone came to us as 2.62 ct. with a 3+ ct. face-up spread, a huge window and a completely off-centered culet. Its exceptional color in an unheated 2.50+ ct. size was reflected in its price, and that in turn meant recutting was extremely risky since there was a good chance for it to fall below the 2.00 line as it required major fixes.
Excellent color aside, we just couldn’t live with the window and the culet being the way they were so it was recut and thankfully that paid off – the stone is now 2.09 with no window and a properly centered culet, which makes its other rarity factors all the more exceptional.
It retained its larger than usual face up size, facing up more like 2.50+, but it doesn’t suffer from any of the cutting defects usually associated with flat cuts like windowing, undue extinction etc. To the contrary, as a result of its rounded shape it even lights up well N-S which is never a given for any well saturated and medium-toned or darker sapphire.
It’s extremely difficult to find purple sapphires that aren’t blackish, brownish, dim or greyish and desaturated to begin with – and excellent colors that are also well cut, eye clean and unheated at the same time are beyond rare.

The only website where all gems get diligently color-matched and edited for accuracy until they reflect what the eye sees in diffused daylight outdoors.
Accurately represented in practical terms rather than abstract grading systems. When we say "eye clean", we really mean it as close up as the eyes can focus.
No commercial cuts here - all of our stones are recut to a high standard for added value, rarity and beauty.
