Vanadium chrysoberyls are rare enough as it is, but flawlessly clean and exceptionally well cut ones are one in a million.
We had this stone recut from a relatively well made but windowed standard oval of 2.89 carats. While the new cut certainly adds a lot of brilliance and makes it look amazingly sharp and pleasant, the stone lost a full tonal grade and went from a full medium tone to a medium-light one.
Whether the tradeoff was worth it depends on one’s personal preferences and priorities, but the remaining color still looks amazing. It goes without saying that it’s incredibly difficult to find this combination of color, clarity and cut in vanadium-bearing chrysoberyl.
